Just Another Friday

Ahh, Friday. Leave it to me to turn a Friday into a Monday. Today, I was out the door about an hour early, since I needed to head to the nearest branch of my credit union in downtown Oakland. For some mysterious reason, my ATM card decided to not work since I made the move to Alameda. It was my task to go in and basically say, "Here is my ATM card, it's screwed up. Please fix it."

Off to downtown Oakland I went. I wasn't about to pull into a parking lot and pay, so I pulled up next to a metered spot on a nearby street. Time was tight, and I had to get going so I could make it to work on time. I gathered the correct paperwork, plus a couple of quarters and prepared to head off to the bank.

SLAM!

I don't know about you guys, but I know the instant I lock the keys in my car...

I wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Merritt.

OK, so I didn't do that. But I did bang my fist on the roof of the car.

This whole locking-the-keys-in-the-car thing could be a problem, especially because of the following:

1.) AAA makes a really neat key-card that you can carry in your wallet in case you ever need it. Too bad I haven't had one since my car was stolen last year, and I inherited the Toyota. That old key-card saved my butt with the old Saturn on a couple of occasions.

2.) The cell phone was kaput because my cell phone charger was worn down and I haven't replaced it yet.

3.) I didn't have any money in my wallet bacause, um.....oh yeah, the ATM card didn't work. The reason I'm on this trip in the first place.

4.) Work was to start in less than an hour. Today was the day the boss was to come down and watch the team run the waterbath. Without getting technical, I can say it was considered a big deal.

Oh well, that God for small favors. I had the AAA card, and the road service number was toll-free. Plus I had two quarters that I could use to fend off any approaching meter maids. The tow truck service did their usual professional job, coming out in less than 15 minutes and having the car unlocked in less than two.

Work ended up just fine. However, I have to try a farther branch tomorrow to get the ATM issues settled. There was a nice bonus: while driving home tonight I saw a meteor. Yes, I made a wish; and no I'm not telling. I have no problem with days that start bad and end on a good note.

Comments:
I locked my keys in the truck at work on Thursday..... I had the guys in maintenance make me a slim jim, but I didn't get my door open after 15 minutes. So I called AAA and they had it in 1 minute.

I need to practice more.

I have never had a tow truck show up that fast... that's great!

Yeah, AAA rocks! I'm sure it helped I was in the middle of downtown Oakland.

I was just browsing various blogs as I was doing a search on the word poster, and I just wanted to say that I really like what you've done with your blog, even though it wasn't particularly related to what I searched for. I appreciate your postings, and your blog is a good example of how a blog should be done. I've only just recently started a Posters website - feel free to visit it when you get a chance if you wish. Much success, antonio.
